Financial Literacy Month Calendar of Events

  • March 31st, 2011, 11:30 am – Financial Literacy Month kicks off with Governor Otter signing a proclamation designating April as Financial Literacy Month. The signing will be held at 11:30a.m. in the Governor’s Ceremonial Office. This event is open to the public.
  • April 5th, 2011 - the Idaho Department of Finance presents information regarding First Time Home Buying to students at Melba High School.
  • April 5th, 2011, 4:00-5:00 pm - Credit and the Interest Insomniac: Using Credit Wisely workshop.   • April 8th, 2011 - the Idaho Department of Finance presents information regarding the Wise Use of Credit Cards and Identity Theft to three classes of students at Fruitland High School.

  • April 12th, 2011 The New York Mets will honor JA volunteer Doug York as part of a recognition program with Citi, “Teammates in Your Community.” In addition, six veteran Mets players will visit a Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) partner school to give a presentation about the power of life-long learning.
  • April 13th, 2011 - the Department of Finance will present the Basics of Saving and Investing to students at Sheridan Academy in Boise.
  • April 13th, 2011 - Junior Achievement will ring the New York Stock Exchange’s Closing Bell in celebration of National Financial Literacy Month. Joe Peri, Junior Achievement of New York president, and I will be joined by seven JANY students and an educator from the High School of Economics and Finance to participate.   • April 14th, 2011 - Joe Peri will participate in a panel discussion convened by The Discovery Channel and The New York Stock Exchange, on the topic of financial literacy. In addition, JANY’s 2010 Student Leader of the Year, Samuel Arijeloye (a 12th-grade student at Murry Bergtraum High School for Business Careers), has been selected to participate in a Discovery Channel “Live Virtual Field Trip” at the New York Stock Exchange. He will participate in conducting live interviews from the NYSE trading floor.

  • April 29th, 2011 - the Idaho Department of Finance will be presenting the Wise use of Credit and Saving and Investing Basics to students at Tammany Alternative High School in Lewiston.
  • May 2-6 - Get$mart Idaho will sponsor Financial Literacy Week in North Idaho. As part of the activities during the week, Get$mart Idaho is hosting a luncheon on May 5th with keynote speaker Dr. Angela Lyons, professor at the University of Illinois who has published many studies concerning financial management.
