The Idaho Department of Finance is a regulatory agency which was created in 1905
to regulate the financial services industry. In 2005, we celebrated our 100th anniversary.
One hundred years ago, our Department administered only one law, the Idaho Bank
Act, and licensed only one industry – banks. The total number of banks regulated
in 1905 was 78 with combined assets totaling approximately $14 million. Today, the
Department licenses & regulates fifteen industries, including banks, with total
assets in the banking industry alone of over $5.5 billion and total assets of all
industries in the billions and billions. The total number of entities regulated
today is over 146,000. The Department receives no general fund or tax revenues but
is funded exclusively from fees paid by the regulated industries. The Department
is committed to maintaining a high standard of professionalism in carrying out its
regulatory mission to ensure that the interests of Idaho's citizens are effectively
served.
Thank you for your interest in the Idaho Department of Finance. We are continually
looking for ways to improve our services, so please feel free to contact us with
your comments and suggestions regarding the accessibility of information about the
industries we regulate, the usefulness of the information offered through our Web
site and any other ideas you may have for making it better.
